animales

I have been busy lately, painting these little guys.  animals with big eyes.  there's a craft fair happening some time before christmas here at work and i am hopefully not going to be too sheepish to sell them there!  they'll be framed too, so they might make a nice little present for someone.  i'm also going to list them on etsy.  $20 a pop!

it's the weekend

It's a rainy day today.  I'm sitting at the dining room table looking out at the deck and the rain dripping down.  I like days like this.  It's a good excuse to hunker down inside, although as my weekends go I usually get antsy sitting inside too long.  I already have several ideas in my head about things I want to do today.  There's the Alternative Press Expo going on today and tomorrow.  Then there's the Totoro Forest Project exhibit at the Cartoon Art Museum that I want to take Annemarie to see, because she didn't get to see it at Pixar when it was there.  I wonder if I'll even get outside today..  There are also many things to do inside.  Like clean up from the feast we had last night.  Play Mario Kart on the wii.  Cook some more delicious food.  Read some really awesome books I bought last week.  Finish my (late) birthday present to my favorite friend.  The list goes on.  Tomorrow if it stops raining, we're supposed to go to the Alameda Flea Market.  I wonder if that's going to happen.

Today I'm feeling lucky though, to be inspired by great food, and great art.  And if anything, that will accompany me in my weekend in the form of a full belly and a smile on my face.  Whether it be indoors or outside!

basics

I've been going to some drop in drawing classes lately, and I've been drawing a lot of figures. I am pretty basic at it, but maybe that's the point when you first start out. to identify the simple shapes, and get them down on paper.. so that's what i've been doing at least, in my own style, and i think maybe i'm getting better. i still have a way to go yet, but i'm enjoying the challenge, a lot. i have always wanted to take a drawing class, just so i can be better at drawing basic things. i'm lucky to be able to go in my lunch break and forget about work for an hour! i have an awesome job.. :)

I drew this the other day. A couple of weeks ago, I went to a couple of gesture drawing classes. It was a ton of fun, and good to get loose a little with the charcoal. Really makes you think about drawing in a different way, makes it seem more practical, breaks it down into just shapes, which is way easier than trying to draw a person straight up.

summer's here

Today is the first day of summer. I gotta go and buy myself some shorts! It's definitely been hot, and I've kinda been (for the first time) excited about being trapped in air conditioning all day. Only because it's too hot out for the denim... It's about time I reclaimed my good old aussie heritage and wore thongs (ah, flip flops) and a good old pair of shorts.

Last night I watched most of the documentary "Who killed the electric car?" It was pretty thought provoking, and made me (especially right now) want to buy an electric car. I don't have a car right now, and life would be easier with one, but I can't bear the thought of investing so much money into something that is still going to drain money from my pocket after I buy it. Gas and insurance alone...

Seems like hot days like this, you really notice the haze that lays over the hills, and I can't help but feel bad about contributing to it on a daily basis.
